On Wednesday evening, July 25, 2012, the Pacifica Police Department was alerted that 76-year-old Maria "Marlies" Jansen had gone missing in the Park Pacifica area of Pacifica at approximately 5:30 p.m.
Police report that Marlies Jansen was last seen by her husband in the area of their home a few hours prior. Marlies is known to walk the trails near Park Pacifica. A search of nearby areas and homes yielded no results, and the assistance of the San Mateo County Sheriff Search and Rescue Unit was then enlisted. Sheriff's departments from San Mateo, Monterey and Alameda counties, among other agencies, sent search and rescue teams to assist police in their search of 1,100 acres of San Pedro Valley Park and surrounding areas amid rugged terrain and dense underbrush.
Marlies Jansen is a 5-foot-5 100-pound Caucasian with brown hair and brown eyes. She may be wearing yellow “croc” type garden shoes.
